A Range Level Workshop on Human Trafficking and Women Empowerment was successfully organised on 17 March 2026 at Mayfair Bay Resort, Paradeep, Jagatsinghpur under the leadership of Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack.

The programme was conducted in the presence of Shri. J Sonal, IAS, Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Jagatsinghpur, and Shri. Ankit Kumar Verma, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Jagatsinghpur.

The workshop brought together police officers, legal experts, social activists, NGOs, and stakeholders to deliberate on the nature, causes, and prevention of human trafficking and measures for women empowerment. Discussions focused on various forms of trafficking such as forced labour, sexual exploitation, child trafficking, bonded labour, and organ trafficking, along with the legal framework under BNS, BNSS, the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, and other relevant laws.

Police officers of all ranks from all districts of Central Range participated in the workshop, making it an important platform for capacity building and inter-district coordination in addressing human trafficking and crimes against women.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Dr. Namrata Chaddha, Former Member of the Odisha State Commission for Women and JJB, and Sri Bidyalok Mohapatra, Advocate, Hon’ble High Court of Odisha, who highlighted legal perspectives and strategies for effective investigation, prosecution, victim protection, and rehabilitation.

In the Technical Session on Women Empowerment, eminent speakers including Dr. Rina Routray, Columnist, Author & Social Activist, Ms. Roseann Rajan, Advocate, and Shri. Rashmi Ranjan Das, DySP, HRPC, Jagatsinghpur, spoke on legal rights, protection mechanisms, and strengthening community support systems for women.

The workshop emphasised inter-agency coordination among police, administration, NGOs, and community institutions to ensure effective rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of trafficking victims and to enhance awareness on women’s rights and legal remedies.

On this occasion, Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, IG of Police, CR, Cuttack also inaugurated a Child Friendly Police Station at Paradeep Lock Police Station, aimed at creating a safe, supportive, and child-sensitive environment for children interacting with the police system, particularly in cases involving child victims or witnesses.

Further strengthening policing infrastructure, a Police Aid Post under Abhayachandrapur Police Station was also inaugurated. The Aid Post will enhance police presence in the area, help in effective crime prevention, improve response time, and provide easier access to police services for local citizens.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session summarising the key outcomes of the workshop and reaffirming the commitment of Central Range Police towards combating human trafficking, promoting women’s empowerment, and strengthening community-oriented policing.
